SMART COMMUNICATIONS, Inc. has been granted tax breaks for operations in the city of Manila, an ordinance published yesterday showed.
Smart will no longer have to pay the local government real property taxes "on all machinery and equipment that are directly used for a telecommunication business" and has also been exempted from paying local franchise tax, Ordinance No. 8229 stated.
The measure was approved by Manila Vice-Mayor Francisco M. Domagoso, who is also now acting mayor, on April 26. It took effect upon approval.
