Helicopter task group comes up with new safety guidelines.

IMPROVEMENTS to the safety of offshore helicopter operations were highlighted yesterday at the launch of a new set of industry guidelines.

Oil and Gas UK said the publication was influenced by the work of the Helicopter Task Group, set up in the aftermath of the Flight 85N disaster on April 1, 2009.

Sixteen men died when their Super Puma helicopter crashed off Peterhead on its return from BP's Miller platform, after the aircraft suffered a catastrophic gearbox failure.

The task group was established to see what lessons could be learned from the tragedy.
