South Sudan reassures Egypt on Nile waters.

JUBA - The minister of water resources and irrigation, Paul Mayom, has said Monday [11 April] that the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) has reassured the Egyptian government on the continuous use of Nile waters. Mayom was speaking after the two parties signed a new protocol in Juba which according to his own words is an affirmation of the 2006 memorandum signed between the two parties in Khartoum that allows Egypt to have full access of its entitled share of the Nile waters. The minister said the North African country cannot survive if the Nile water is interrupted, adding that, "The agriculture of Egypt is entirely dependent on Nile water, and the economy of the country would be tempered with if Nile water is diverted."
