Court reverses Ombudsman suspension of euro general.

THE COURT of Appeals (CA) has allowed a ranking police officer allegedly involved in the euro generals scandal of 2008 to escape an Ombudsman-mandated suspension.

In a 14-page decision, the CAs Fourth Division reversed Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrezs suspension of Chief Supt. Tomas Rentoy III for allegedly unlawful disbursing P2,314,096 in Philippine National Police (PNP) funds for a trip to Russia taken by several PNP officers and their wives.

In the decision penned by Associate Justice Josefina Guevarra-Salonga, the CA said the Ombudsman committed a grave error in not citing stronger grounds in her decision to issue a preventive …
