'Auxiliary unit plan to help police'.

SELANGOR Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the idea to form an auxiliary police unit in the state would help the Federal Government deal with the police force's manpower shortage.

He said the request was rejected by the Home Ministry even though the full cost was to be borne by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

"According to recent studies, currently there are 50,000 (police force) vacancies that need to be filled. Our suggestion to step up security is done with the knowledge that the police force is struggling to fulfil the demands of the force nationwide.
