DoH QIPP lead says estates and hospital cuts will help GPs hit savings target.

Just 20 per cent of the pounds 20 billion NHS efficiency savings target will come from service redesign by GP consortia, a senior DoH official has said.

Jim Easton, DoH director of improvement and efficiency in England, said around 40 per cent of the pounds 15-20 billion saving required by 2014 will come from cutting manager numbers and pay freezes across the NHS.

Improving hospital performance and 'massive' reductions in NHS estates and pathology services will make up a further 40 per cent, said Mr Easton.
