While so many colleges and universities are making cuts, many athletics department budgets continue to grow, often at the expense of students.

Two Ohio University professors surveyed 1,000 of their school's students about athletics spending and learned:

* Fewer than 7% of respondents felt intercollegiate athletics' (ICA) reputation was "important" or "extremely important" in their enrollment decision.

* More than 35% attended no sporting events, despite having to pay $765 in athletics fees, which was about 8% of …
