If you know how to cook rice in a pot on a gas stove, you will not be stuck when your electric rice-cooker is unusable because of a blackout. Having a cassette portable gas stove is also useful.

Cooking expert Akiko Watanabe said you can easily and quickly cook rice in a pot if you know the basics, such as how much water to use or how high the flame should be.

According to Watanabe, any pot with a lid can be used. Measure washed rice in a glass and put it in the pot with the same amount of water. Washed rice is 1.2 times larger by volume compared to the dry grains. Next, let the rice soak for at least …
