THE national bowling team did creditably well in their first international of the year, the 5th Commonwealth Championships which concluded on Saturday with Singapore emerging as overall champions.

Zulmazran Zuikifli and Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman shone for the national team, delivering the men's and women's singles titles on the opening day.

The titles meant much to them as they had not won an event since 2009.

Zulmazran played through the pain barrier of his injured wrist while Siti Safiyah was on medication for a thyroid problem during the Commonwealth Championships.
