THE FILIPINO Davis Cuppers may have the homecourt advantage and the choice of the turf, but the odds remain stacked against them when they battle the Japanese next week.

The Japanese were to arrive late yesterday in Cebu City, holding a 17-9 head-to-head count against the hosts, whom they swept in their last three ties.

Go Soeda, Tatsuma Ito, Yuichi Sugita and Takao Suzuki form the team, to be headed by nonplaying captain Eiji Takeuchi in the tie.

Japan will again miss the services of its wonder boy of tennis, Kei Nishikori, the 21-year-old ranked No. 66 in the world.
