WASHINGTON, Feb. 15 (Yonhap) - The United States said Tuesday it does not have immediate plans to provide food assistance to North Korea, which is suffering from a severe shortage, after it and South Korea severed aid due to rising tensions following the North's provocations last year.

"I'm not aware that we have current plans to provide food assistance," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters. "We are watching the situation in North Korea very closely."
