PLANS have been lodged for a waste treatment plant in Buchan which aims to reduce the amount of rubbish dumped in Aberdeenshire landfill by 70%.

Sita UK submitted an application for the GBP60million 'resource recovery park' yesterday, which is earmarked for land at the Stoneyhill dump, near Peterhead.

The French firm, which operates landfills across the country, recently struck a deal with Aberdeenshire Council to treat and dispose of its residential and business waste for the next 15 years.
