Petition to save children's centres gathers support.

MORE than 1,100 signatures have been collected by campaigners against the proposed closure of six city children's centres.

Derby's Labour Group has been gathering signatures in the city over the past week and has so far collected 1,125.

The city council may close six out of 18 centres to save GBP500,000 as part of its bid to save GBP27 million this year.

Campaigner Sarah Russell said: "The response from the public has been astonishing. Emotions are running high and people want to save the centres."
