A CHANCE phone call from Maureen Flint, of Matlock, led me to a wonderful archive of Matlock Town Football Club photos.

In researching the background to the pictures, I discovered a fairytale 20-year period in the club's history that saw it teeter on the edge of folding, then win the FA Trophy at Wembley and go on to represent England in Anglo-Italian football.

Having disbanded in 1936, Matlock Town was reformed after the war in 1946 by a group of stalwart supporters and played in the Chesterfield and District League.
