WITH less than four days to go before the lunar Year of the Rabbit kicks in, many celebrating the occasion will be rushing to complete preparations to usher in the new year: cleaning house, buying food and decorations and, for some, getting themselves a pet rabbit for good luck. Already, some rabbit breeders are recording a two-fold increase in demand for pet rabbits. Exotic variants can even fetch up to RM1,380 per rabbit; this lunar zodiac springboarding the pet rabbit trend.

But if previous season's celebrations are anything to go by, within just a few weeks or months of the pet acquisition craze, these cute, cuddly rabbits will be abandoned; ending up at best in animal …
