Deeside business tops subsidy league with GBP1.7m payout.

A small Deeside farming business has topped the agricultural-subsidy payment league for the second successive year -- and added nearly GBP600,000 to its annual payout from the taxpayer.

Frank A. Smart and Son Ltd has received GBP1,790,299.13 in the last month. That is up GBP586,531 on the GBP1,203,768 the business, based at Easter Tolmauds, Tornaveen, Torphins, received last year.

Frank Smart said yesterday: 'I have no comment. It seems no one wants to let go of this.'

The payment was among those processed by the Scottish Government in December and revealed to the Press and Journal in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.
