Doctors to challenge state over new dispensing fees Science and Health Editor CAPE TOWN SA's biggest doctors' group, the South African Medical Association (Sama), yesterday called for an urgent meeting with Department of Health director-general Precious Matsoso to discuss the state's new fees for dispensing doctors, saying they are still too low.

The new fees were published in the Government Gazette on Christmas Eve and allow licensed doctors to charge up to 30% of the price of prescription drugs, capped at R23,40. The fee is an inflation-linked increase on the controversial fees announced last July, which were capped at R22,50. Doctors say the …
