No freeze on health specialists Gauteng THE Gauteng health department yesterday denied claims by the Democratic Alliance (DA) that there was a moratorium on the filling of health specialist posts.

The DA said Gauteng hospitals started this year with a skills crisis as 314 out of 1476 specialist posts were empty due to a moratorium instituted in November.

But department spokesman Simon Zwane said the moratorium applied only to administrative, support and clerical staff and did not cover health professionals. He said the moratorium was intended to avoid hiring non-essential staff who bloated the bureaucracy at the expense of medical and …
