BRITAIN will grind to a halt with fresh fuel blockades as fuming motorists demand a cut in petrol prices.

Increases in fuel tax and VAT are adding around 3.5p to the price of a litre this week.

And with soaring crude oil prices threatening to add another 15.5p a litre, experts predict we'll be paying GBP1.40 a litre at the pumps within days.

The AA estimates the latest tax increases will add more than GBP34 to the monthly fuel costs of a two-car family - news that has led motoring organisations and haulage operators plotting ways of reviving their protests of a decade ago.
