Postal staff get much-awaited salary hike.

THOUSANDS of postmen and counter clerks at post offices nationwide were overjoyed when Pos Malaysia revised their salaries.

The new salary scheme, which came into effect in July, the first revision after 18 years, was in line with the prime minister?s New Economic Model, which aims to increase the income of low income groups.

Information Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim was quoted as saying that the government was looking at standardising the salary of Pos Malaysia staff with that of other civil servants.

Prior to the salary hike, a postman commanded a basic salary of RM610 and RM720 for a clerk.
