HERE IN MANILA on Christmas Day and for two weeks thereafter, all the movie theaters put away the reels that contain imported movies. Instead, the cinemas show only locally made films as part of the Metro Manila Film Festival, now in its 36th year.
The Film Fest (as its normally called) has produced some amazing pieces of cinema that are now considered classics, such as Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon, Burlesk Queen, Kisapmata, Himala, Karnal, Bulaklak ng City Jail and Jose Rizal.
