French envoy stands by criticism of human rights in DRCongo.

France's ambassador for human rights, Francois Zimeray, on 22 December defended his description of the human rights situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as "foundering" after a Congolese minister said criticisms of this kind had to stop.

In an interview broadcast on Radio France Internationale (RFI), Zimeray said he had "used strong words because I have seen strong things". He added that he had merely borne witness to things such as children being unable to go to school because their parents can't pay their teachers or imprisoned children who have not eaten for five days, "and I think it's my role as French ambassador for human rights to say what I have seen". …
