Beirut: Defence Minister Carme Chacon has praised the role of the Spanish troops deployed in Lebanon during her visit to the Spanish contingent of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

"Spaniards must know that your work and your sacrifice bring stability to the world and security to Spain", she told the 1,074 Spanish servicemen.

"The absence of open war is not peace, but it is the condition so that at some point our peoples can be reconciled and reach a lasting and solid peace. If that peace arrived, a giant step would be taken …
