The prospect of further chilly temperatures is just around the corner. Many Britons also face the prospect of freezing in their homes or not being able to make a hot meal because their gas appliances have let them down when they're needed most.

With latest research from ONS showing that seven pensioners died every hour during last year's severe winter weather, Gas Safe Register, the UK's official list of legal and qualified gas engineers, is encouraging the elderly population in the North East to stay warm and gas safe this winter.
