As announced, Bayer AG is to expand its plastics business in China. Around EUR 1 bn will thus be invested in Shanghai by 2016. Bayer expects its customer industries in Asia/Pacific to continue growing. The company's MDI capacity will be more than doubled to 1 M tonnes/y and PC capacity to 500,000 tonnes/y. This will be achieved by erecting new plants and expanding existing ones. Research and development activities are also to be strengthened.
