from ANTARA, The Indonesian National News Agency Banda Aceh, Aceh, Dec 10 (ANTARA) - Two people were punished with eight whip lashes in the yard of the Al Munawarah Mosque in Jantho, Aceh Besar, on Friday after being convicted of violating Islamic law.

Anis Saputra (24) and Kiki Hanafilia (17) were lashed before hundreds of villagers, after the Jantho Islamic court on Thursday ruled that the two had violated Article 22 of the region's by-law Number 14 of 2003 on indecent acts.

Prosecutor Deby Rinaldi said the two were sentenced to eight lashes each and what had aggravated their guilt was the fact they were each no longer single persons.
