Residents Boycott Jamhuri Day Festivities.

Leaders and wananchi in Mbita District on Sunday made good an earlier threat and boycotted the 47th Jamhuri Day celebrations.

The move was in protest at the absence of Provincial Administration officials in the district.

Less than 100 people, many of whom were chiefs, regular and Administration police, were present at Olundu Stadium when Suba DO1 Waweru Karanja read the presidential speech.

The funfair that characterises national celebrations was lacking. The administrator left in a hurry soon after he was through with the speech.
