BEING "cool" and wanting to "belong" are reasons why young people join gangs, a meeting last night was told.

Allenton residents gathered at a Boulton Neighbourhood Forum event to hear more about Derby's gang culture and its appeal.

Police officers from the Multi Agency Gangs Team, which also includes representatives from Derby City Partnership, the fire service and Derby Homes, gave a presentation using feedback from work they have been doing with teenagers in the city.

The meeting, at Moorhead Primary School, in Bracken's Lane, was told that there are three principal gangs in the city …
