Faced with perennial underachievement in all sports but middle and long distance running, the Government has finally got down to doing something about talent development.

The Ministries of Education, Youth and Sports and United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) have launched the eight schools identified as centres of excellence in sports by the government.

Selection to the long over-due academies, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday was launched at UpperHill School in Nairobi on Monday.
