41,776 barangays to have new officials today; polls, results hang in.

A TOTAL of 41,776 barangays will have new officials starting today and will hold office until 2013, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said yesterday.

James Arthur B. Jimenez, Comelec spokesman, said in an interview that oath-taking activities will be conducted in the respective barangays.

The country has a total of 42,025, but Mr. Jimenez said 249 barangays experienced failure of elections due to violence and lack of election materials.

Special elections are still being scheduled for these villages, he said.
