Zanzibar's new Minister for Sports, Abdilahi Hassan, expressed confidence the island would win the Tusker Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup as he presented the team with the national flag on Thursday.

Reports carried in the Tanzanian media quoted Hassan as saying commitment and discipline would see the team succeed.

He may very well have been looking at Zanzibari teams' conduct in past Cecafas, which has been anything but exemplary. Miembeni were expelled from the Cecafa Club championship in Khartoum in 2009 over indiscipline while the Zanzibar Under-17 team was sanctioned for unsporting behaviour at the age grade tournament last year.
