Philippines: Melo resigns as Comelec chief.

Section: General News - Commission on Election (Comelec) Chairman Jose Melo on Tuesday has filed his resignation letter.

Commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer and Gregorio Larrazabal confirmed the news saying that they were not surprised when Melo showed them the resignation letter.

We were not surprised as we are talking about it for quite sometime, said Ferrer, adding that they have been talking about the resignation since July.

The resignation is tentatively effective on January 31, 2011.

Asked on what would be the reason why Melo filed his resignation, Ferrer said, he wants to move on.
