Resignation reigns in the queues as deadline nears Zimbabweans line up for legality, writes ONE straight queue, please,& calls out the blue-vested security guard on Harrison Street, Johannesburg. The hundreds of men and women in lines stretching around the corner shuffle up and squeeze themselves into single file. Zimbabwean Margeret Hove, a domestic worker who has been in SA since 2006, has been waiting with her six-month-old daughter in her arms. She queued outside the Department of Home Affairs offices since 5.30am to apply for the special permit that would allow her to remain in SA legally. & I don't think even if I wait for the whole day, I will win,& she says.
