The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has ruled that New Forest District Council breached data protection rules when it published personal information on the internet in 2008.
The ICO had responded to complaints from a local resident who said that the council had not redacted personal data from a planning application when publishing it online.
The watchdog said that initially the council's actions were in order, as it "addressed the issue and removed the relevant data".
