Defending Burma's generals requires twisted logic

I disagree with Mr Fernando Pelegrin, of Khon Kaen, who holds that "Burma election a step in the right direction" (Opinion, November 9). He does not see how "all the pre-election condemnation can be helpful in any way". But the junta so fears one unarmed woman that they have put her under house arrest for over a decade now, without being charged or brought to trial, and made it illegal for her to stand for election.
