Alford-bred calf wins Smithfield championship for Ayrshire exhibitor.

A calf bred at Alford stole the limelight on the second day of the East of England Winter Stock Festival, Peterborough, which this year hosted the Royal Smithfield Club's championships.

The Limousin cross heifer, Dance With Me, bred by Alistair Smart, of Shiel, Muir of Fowlis, was shown by James Nisbet, Sorn Mains, Sorn, Mauchline, Ayrshire, and won the event's Baby Beef championship for calves born in 2010.

Sired by Emslies Caledonian and out of a Limousin cross British Blue dam, the March-born Dance With Me weighed 377kg (831lb) on show day having been bought for GBP2,200 by Mr Nisbet at …
