Hunt for first Thai gold gets under way

Thailand begin their hunt for a gold medal in the 16th Asian Games in Quangzhou today when titles in three sports are being contested, with female weightlifters Pensiri Laosirikul and Pramsiri Bunphithak being the best bets.

The competition in the quadrennial tournament today swings into full action following yesterday's opening ceremony. There are a total of 28 gold medals up for grabs in six sports, of which swimming and shooting account for the largest haul with six.

Thai eyes, however, will be on Pensiri and Pramsiri in the weightlifting hall as they attempt to follow in the footsteps …
