SA building faces worst downturn in 40 years Cement group PPC says sector is coming unstuck on poor demand Industrial Correspondent SA IS facing its worst building and construction recession in 40 years, cement maker Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) warned yesterday, citing a dramatic fall in demand since the World Cup and conceding it has little idea when the sector will bounce back.

Compounding the severity of the outlook for the sector is continuing uncertainty over the government's nearly R900bn infrastructure programme.

PPC is one of a string of construction and related companies to have reported poor earnings and a bleak outlook …
