Argentina at a new crossroad as 'first man' dies ON WEDNESDAY, the bustling, sprawling metropolis of Buenos Aires was a ghost town. Normally teeming streets and chaotic traffic jams had thinned out to resemble Bloemfontein on a Sunday afternoon. It was Census Day, the once-a-decade Argentinian national holiday, when all 40-million citizens must be at home to await the national head count.
