FIVE novice explorers are being given the chance to spend six weeks trekking to the South Pole in the footsteps of the ill-fated Captain Robert Falcon Scott.

There are a few conditions for the 400-mile expedition. Applicants have to be over 16, physically fit, good team players and be able to stump up around GBP45,000 to pay for their participation.

Scott reached the South Pole on January 17, 1912, only to discover that Norwegian Roald Amundsen had won the race to be there first.

Scott's return journey ended in tragedy as he and his four companions perished in the frozen wilderness.
