Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil is to write to the transport minister expressing deep concern about the coalition government's plans to scrap the tugboat service which pulled the stranded nuclear submarine, HMS Astute, to safety.

Mr MacNeil said yesterday he had been contacted by several constituents who are very worried about the decision.

HMS Astute was pulled off a shingle bank by the Stornoway-based tug Anglian Prince on Friday night after the ultra-modern sub had grounded between Skye and the mainland near the Skye Bridge.
