Philippine exports to Japan up 23%.

THE VALUE of local goods shipped to Japan jumped 23.4 percent to almost $5.1 billion in the first eight months, from nearly $4.1 billion in the same period last year.

According to data from the Japan External Trade Organization, imports from the countrys second largest trading partner likewise increased to $7.2 billion as of end-August, a 49.4-percent surge from the $4.8 billion recorded a year earlier.

In the January-August period, the Philippines accounted for 1.1 of Japans imports and 1.5 percent of exports.

Japan registered a trade surplus of more than $2.1 billion from January-August.
