HUAWEI Technologies Co Ltd, the biggest telecommunications equipment maker in China, hopes to be one of the top five Android-powered smartphone players in Malaysia in two years, as it introduces more models into the market.

"It will be quite a challenging goal because many consumers still do not know us as a phone manufacturer.

"We are always behind the scenes ... for example, we manufacture for Vodafone," Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd head of network terminals (Malaysia & Brunei) Tang Siew Wai said after the media launch of its new smartphone in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
