ARUA district education officer (DEO) has blamed the poor standards of education in his district on the laxity of teachers. Nicholas Tembo described his teachers as a bunch of drunkards who do not deserve any respect.

However, while the DEO is free to blame the teachers for the falling educational standards in the district, he might as well have passed an indictment against himself. As the head of the education department, the DEO should be telling the people of Arua what he has done to improve standards since assuming office rather than lamenting and blaming someone else.
