from BERNAMA, The Malaysian National News Agency MELBOURNE, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Qantas rejected an approach by Etihad Airways because it did not see any economic benefits, Qantas chief Alan Joyce said on Wednesday.

Etihad last week received interim approval from Australia's competition regulator for an alliance with Virgin Blue.

Despite rejecting the Etihad proposal, Qantas urged the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to block the deal with Virgin.

Joyce said Qantas was offered the same arrangement to fly into Abu Dhabi, but "we looked in the numbers and we didn't believe it could be economic".
