Banking's key role in ETP projects.

THE banking system is expected to play a major role in funding private-sector projects under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar said that about 90 per cent of the funding for investment under the ETP will be from the private sector, a portion of which will come from banks.

"Major infrastructure projects have huge multiplier effects for the economy and, as bankers, we must always provide funds for those projects with very clear repayments," he told reporters at Maybank's Raya Open House in Kuala Lumpur …
