The National Resistance Movement (NRM) electoral commission (EC) has banned candidates who contested for various positions in the just-concluded primaries from announcing themselves winners, either on radio or in newspapers.

"It is only the EC or the district returning officers who have the powers to announce winners," said Felistus Magomu, the electoral commissioner.
