iPRIMARY school pupils in Manchester, Oldham and Rochdale are performing better at school. But a growing number of seven-year-olds in Stockport are failing to meet basic standards in maths, English and science a even though the town is still the highest achieving area in Greater Manchester. Standards also fell in Bury, Bolton, Salford and Trafford this year, according to new national figures. Last year, 87 per cent of youngsters in Stockport demonstrated the expected reading skills, but this fell to 85pc this year.
