Section: General News - US President Barack Obama declared on Tuesday the end of US combat operations in Iraq.
"Tonight, I am announcing that the American combat mission in Iraq has ended," Obama said in a nationally televised speech from the Oval Office.
US forces have been in the Middle Eastern country since the US-led invasion in March 2003.
"Operation Iraqi Freedom is over, and the Iraqi people now have lead responsibility for the security of their country," Obama said.
