Police closed Kisekka Market yesterday after fire engulfed over 40 shops and destroyed property worth billions. The fire that started from the western wing of the market is said to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, according to the police.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Mr Andrew Sorowen, said "We highly suspect that fire was started by an electrical spark because there are no restaurants at the wing of danger to suggest [fire from a] charcoal stove."

He said the market will remain closed until all lost property is recorded and genuine owners identified to eliminate thieves. "We have arrested about five suspects attempting to grab property from shops," Mr Sorowen said. Kisekka Market is the second …
